A 1-Week Switzerland Winter Tour with a Scenic Rail Journey
Switzerland’s Alpine Valleys: Lucerne to Geneva
Across one winter week, you’ll travel through Switzerland’s Christmas season by rail and road, with grand mountains and snow-bright valleys. Today begins beside the lake in Lucerne, amongst the cool air of a 14th-century fortress city rising above snow-dusted forests. Through the Grisons Alps, you’ll pass frosted peaks, frozen waterfalls and St. Moritz, long loved by royalty. On a scenic rail journey towards Andermatt, you thread through the Albula Pass tunnel, cross the Landwasser Viaduct and descend into the Rhône Valley, watching pale mountains drift past the window. In Geneva, bread is dipped into melted cheese at a fondue dinner, while the clink of glasses and the soft nutty scent of Gruyère drift around the table.

As the train joins the broad Rhine Gorge, it meanders beside rock-strewn rivers, climbing through snowy pastures and woodlands. After spiralling to the highest point of the route, the icy Oberalp Pass, you'll descend to Andermatt. Here, rejoin the coach and drive through the dramatic Schöllenen Gorge, passing the Devil's Bridge, a site steeped in local legend.
