Next, we make our way to Bridgetown, the capital of Barbados. Immerse yourself in Caribbean culture in the midst of impeccably preserved British colonial architecture. An overnight here means more time to sip on some rum at the Mount Gay Rum Distillery, swim with sea turtles, or set out on a 4×4 adventure into the interior in search of green monkeys.
On a late stay in Castries, St. Lucia, explore ecosystems not found anywhere else in the region including rain forests, mountains, and beaches. Not to mention volcanoes. A visit to Terre-de-Haut, the largest of the Îles des Saintes in Guadeloupe, gives you a touch of France tinged with a laid-back Caribbean sensibility. Wander to Fort Napoleon to learn more about the history and culture of the islands or stroll any number of impressive white sand beaches. In Virgin Gorda, British Virgin Islands, visit the Baths—an area on the southern portion of the island strewn with giant boulders. Some of these boulders are as big as a house, the perfect place for exploring and seeking shelter after a day of snorkeling. Take two days sailing off into the sunset before concluding your voyage back in Fort Lauderdale.
